The DDK syndrome is an early embryonic lethal phenotype observed in crosses between females of the DDK inbred mouse strain and many non-DDK males. Lethality results from an incompatibility between a maternal DDK factor and a non-DDK paternal gene, both of which have been mapped to the Ovum mutant () locus on mouse chromosome . Here we define a 465-kb candidate interval for the paternal gene by recombinant progeny testing. To further refine the candidate interval we determined whether males from 17 classical and wild-derived inbred strains are interfertile with DDK females. We conclude that the incompatible paternal allele arose in the lineage and that incompatible strains should share a common haplotype spanning the paternal gene. We tested for association between paternal allele compatibility/incompatibility and 167 genetic variants located in the candidate interval. Two diallelic SNPs, located in the gene cluster, are completely predictive of the polar-lethal phenotype. These SNPs also predict the compatible or incompatible status of males of five additional strains.

I have acquired a breadth of environmental knowledge, grounded in an academic foundation in environmental education and policy, and supported by professional and field-based research and teaching experiences in both the United States and Latin America. My educational endeavors are designed to be interdisciplinary in nature as I seek to acquire a broader understanding of how scholarship, pedagogy, field-based research, and policy can effectively intersect. This set of competencies has provided me with the tools and perspectives to instruct and mentor students, and engage them in evidenced based, inspirational, meaningful, and experiential environmental learning. My students report that they value this approach, as it contributes to both their environmental understandings and guides them toward changes in their affective and behavioral domains.I am interested in working with students, faculty, and public and private stakeholders in assessing and designing solutions to local, national, and international environmental issues. I have a dedicated interest in working with students in the field, internationally, and on travel assignments throughout Latin America. My instruction includes advancing an understanding of the value of dedication to service to the community as well as educating for eco-justice and community. This approach is perhaps most compatible with C.A. Bowers’ position that community-centered traditions provide an alternative to efforts “that are now overshooting the long-term sustaining capacity of the environment.” Bower’s recommendations for the promotion of an eco-justice curriculum imply that we, as instructors, have a greater set of responsibilities as professionals and thus must work more intensively and thoughtfully to act as mediators who affect and incorporate the learner, the community, and the environment. This teaching philosophy first requires reflection and acknowledgment of the dominant social paradigm that promotes hyperindividuality and a hyperconsumer culture. It is important therefore to understand where in the curriculum education reproduces language and practice that facilitates the culturally and environmentally destructive patterns of the dominant social paradigm, and to address these issues accordingly.

The second deadly attack in a month happened where land disputes have reignited a long-dormant ethnic conflict and caused thousands to flee. The UN has warned the situation in the DRC has reached "a breaking point."

More than 40 people have been killed in ethnic clashes between Hema herders and Lendu farmers in the village of Maze, some 80 kilometres (50 miles) north of Bunia, the provincial capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo's (DRC) northeastern Ituri province .

Land disputes have reignited a largely dormant conflict between the communities over the past two months. At least 30 people were killed during two days of clashes in February.

The two groups were involved in Eric Michael Gabriella mF33zaznTe

'A case of reprisals'

Commenting on this most recent incident, local army spokesman Jules Ngongo, said: "It was a case of reprisals by the two communities. According to our information, there were cases of people being decapitated." Ngongo said he could not yet provide an accurate death toll.
